LIFE-DRAWING CLASSES

charcoal drawing of a female nude.I run a number of art classes, both private and for Sefton Council. I also do a Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening life drawing class at the Bluecoat art centre, Liverpool. Please contact me for further details. Also at Lydiate L31 4HL, the first Saturday of each month. This is an all day session. Cost £28. I've been doing life-drawing and painting courses for a number of years and the combined groups have now grown into a very lively art group where people come together to not only learn about doing art, but also as a social activity.

Life-drawing is the key to painting. Why? Because it forces you to observe and to measure accurately! I have taught many students life-drawing, though you struggle at first in getting the measuring correct it pays back enormous dividends for the rest of your life. If you can draw the figure, then I believe you can draw any subject. Believe it or not, even people who no nothing about art, if shown a drawing or a painting of the nude, will immediately see if the figure isn’t drawn to the correct proportions! They will sense that something is not quite right. On the other hand, if shown a painting of a landscape they were unfamiliar with, half the painting could be out of proportion and it wouldn’t be obvious

SO, WHY NOT JOIN?

Because people in the life class are at different levels, we see a lot of different approaches to the figure, which is good, because it feeds back into the class and often members pick up new ideas in how to depict the human form. At the end of the session we can have work ranging from very precise and detailed to something approaching abstraction.

I now run an all day life-drawing class, for both beginners and those more advanced. It takes place on a Saturday, starting at 10am till 3.30pm. The first Saturday of each month.
Life-drawing, working directly from the nude figure, is the key to learing to draw and paint accurately. It teaches you to observe and to create accurate drawings and paintings. Please contact me for further details, cost £28 per Saturday or visit: life drawing classes, one Saturday per month

I also organise art exhibitions for the life-drawing class. This provides an imputous to members to prepare work which they can exhibit and hopefully sell. Apart from enjoying the feeling of having their work exhibited before the public, it provides an opportunity to see their work in the contex of an exhibition. Plus, members enjoy the social event as well. painting of a female nude a member in the life-drawing class

The life-drawing class has grown over the last year, and pre-booking is essential. You just need to contact me to arrange a place.

The life-drawing class
If you think that joining a class might be a bit intimidating, don't let that put you off. Remember, everyone in the class has the same interest as yourself, plus they also felt the same. Besides, people join at different times, and they soon settle in.

Art classes are an ideal way of learning how to paint and draw. The art courses that I run, including life drawing, are intended not just to teach you the subjects, but to fully involve you in the artistic world. Remember, you are under no pressure and you get from it whatever you want to take away. I often find that people on my art courses like to have access to other interesting art related events, like visiting galleries and viewing exhibitions. Also, they like to see their own work up on a wall in an art gallery, or in an exhibition. I help run an artists’ cooperative gallery in Southport, and this allows us the opportunity to show members’ work in a professional setting.
